Transgender Legacy Ceremony

Activist and DJ Ephraim Adamz is hosting this Pretty in Pastels themed Transgender Legacy Ceremony to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the murder of Rita Hester, one of the many black trans women who’s killing sparked the first Transgender Day of Remembrance. Although she was killed in Massachusetts, Ms. Hester grew up in the Dutch Point projects of Hartford and attended Buckley High School. The event includes a potluck meal, an art gallery, illuminated mansion, and a celebration of life. Guests and allies are encouraged to discuss art, bring food to share, invite friends and family, enjoy 90s music, and engage in community conversations. The event is free and relatives of Rita Hester may be in attendance.

*Beginning November 20th, the Transgender Legacy Flag designed by Ephraim Adamz will fly on Pratt Street through November 28th, the date on which Rita Hester was killed. Black and brown is placed at the center of the Transgender Legacy Flag to bring awareness to the recurring violence committed against transgender people of color. The triangular midpoint insinuates an hourglass, which symbolizes past, present, future, and legacy.
