Dramatic Reading: “Eclipsed” by Danai Gurira
Author Danai Gurira, an award-winning playwright and actorinterviewed more than 30 women—those who had been physically assaulted, whose daughters were taken by rebel fighters, and female peace activists who were instrumental in ending the violence. The names of the women in Eclipsed come from the people Gurira met during her travels. As The Amistad Center marks Emancipation Day on August 1 and highlights its exhibition FreedomWays, the hope is that this stage reading enlightens visitors about the fights for freedom worldwide and inspires learning and inspiration from experiences across the African diaspora.
