From the streets of Ponce to the heights of salsa stardom, El Cantante (2007, R) tells the story of legendary Puerto Rican singer Héctor Lavoe, played by Marc Anthony alongside Jennifer Lopez as his wife, Puchi. Showing for free at the Wadsworth Atheneum’s First Thursdays, the film complements The Sense of Beauty: Six Centuries of Painting from Museo de Arte de Ponce, celebrating Puerto Rico’s rich artistic legacy through music and film.
