Guided Tour: Soldiers of the Revolutionary War
Beginning in April, 1775, Connecticut mustered more than 40,000 Connecticut men for military service during the Revolution. Hartford played a key role as a central location between New York and Boston. Learn more about the people of Hartford who contributed their time and efforts to fight against the oppressive British rule, such as men in the militia including Col. Jeremiah Wadsworth and many other captains and soldiers who served. Discover the importance of The Connecticut Courant newspaper, founded in 1764 and surviving to this day as The Courant. View the stones and sites of the farmers who supplied the militias with valuable materials that assisted the war effort such as provisions, horses, lumber and more.
