Hartford’s PARK(ing) Day 2014 brought temporary parks to 12 locations around downtown Hartford. Hartford’s Parking Day is presented by a partnership of civic organizations: Civic Mind, the Greater Hartford Arts Council, the Hartford Business Improvement District and KNOX, Inc. Additional support provided by the City of Hartford’s Marketing, Events and Cultural Affairs Division, the Hartford Parking Authority, the Hartford Police Department and The iQuilt Plan.
Originally conceived by San Francisco’s Rebar Group, PARK(ing) Day has grown into a global phenomenon celebrated in more than 165 communities in 35 countries around the world. PARK(ing) Day encourages citizens, artists and activists to combat urban sprawl—one parking space at a time. In 2013, participants created more than 1,000 temporary public parks.
