The Emily Hall Tremaine Lecture in Contemporary
Photographer Justine Kurland is known for her photographs of American landscapes and the fringe communities that inhabit them. Her monumental series “Girl Pictures” (1997–2002) documents teenage girls as rebels at play in bucolic frontier landscapes.
Join Kurland in a discussion of “Girl Pictures”, acquired by the Wadsworth in 2021, and her feminist approach to storytelling through photography. Meet in the galleries before the lecture to view all sixty-nine photographs from Girl Pictures. Free with required reservation. 5pm gallery viewing, 6pm lecture.
