Hamilton: The Art of Remaking History

The award-winning musical Hamilton is on stage at The Bushnell this summer. While the production is in Hartford, visit the Wadsworth to learn how historic imagery informed the costume and set designs that are brought to life on stage.

See art and artifacts that relate to the era reimagined in Hamilton, including paintings by John Trumbull and Gilbert Stuart, period costumes, silver, and rarely seen archival letters to Colonel Jeremiah Wadsworth, from the Wadsworth’s permanent collection. Inspired by Lin-Manuel Miranda’s marvelous retelling of a fabled character in American history, this exhibition similarly invites a fresh look at the past through the lens of the present. In collaboration with The Bushnell Center for Performing Arts and the Connecticut Historical Society.
