ArtWalk Opening: Michelle Thomas, The Adornment Series

Join Hartford grown, Brooklyn-based artist, Michelle Thomas, in the opening of her solo show, “The Adornment Series: Images of Empowerment”! The evening will include live music by CT percussionist extraordinaire Jocelyn Pleasant.
The Adornment Series focuses on creatively presenting the unique characteristics and prominent attributes of people of African descent through ceramic mask making and cultural objects. Thomas’ research and artwork seeks to counter-attack damaging negative portrayals of people of African descent through highlighting the beauty in Blackness. Each piece represents an African ancestor passing through contemporary bodies and giving guidance through symbolic artifacts of textiles and clay objects. Thomas says, “As a visual artist, I feel passionate about creating with the responsibility to visually offer artwork that adds to the landscape of healing.”
