The Undocumented Americans: A Conversation with Karla Cornejo Villavicencio
Apr 07, 2021 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Right after the election of 2016, Karla Cornejo Villavicencio grabbed a Sharpie and wrote her immigration lawyer’s phone number on her hand. Then she embarked on a trip across the country, looking for true stories of her fellow undocumented immigrants in the United States. Her book, “The Undocumented Americans”, published in 2020, was the culmination of her journey.
Join Karla, one of the first undocumented immigrants to graduate from Harvard, and Fany Hannon, Director of the Puerto Rican/Latin American Cultural Center at UConn, as they explore this powerful and personal narrative about the secret lives of those deemed “strays”, “unwelcome” and “expendable” in our nation.
This program is co-sponsored by UConn’s El Institute of Latina/o, Caribbean, and Latin American Studies, and the Connecticut Democracy Center at Connecticut’s Old State House.
