The Wadsworth Atheneum’s history of presenting outdoor sculpture on its Hartford grounds dates back nearly 100 years. Join them as they celebrate a storied past and an exciting present, with the unveiling of two large-scale sculptural installations on the museum’s Main Street lawn: “Monolith (Optic)” by MATRIX 179 artist Conrad Shawcross, and a towering 30-layer piece by Sean Scully in anticipation of his forthcoming exhibition “Landline.”
Stay for the opening of MATRIX 179, featuring” additional sculptures, models, artist interviews, and a slow-moving light machine. These energetic, geometric objects demonstrate the artist’s ongoing interests in science, robotics, and the natural world. MATRIX 179 will be Shawcross’s first museum exhibition in the Americas.
