Lecture/Performance Arien Wilkerson Queer Eroticism as Power
Looking within the spaces in-between part 2: lovepiece, queer eroticism as power, Blackness, Queer Abstractions, Body, Performance and Phenomenon”
In this conversation with Billie Lee, artist Arien Wilkerson will talk about lovepiece, show video content and material from that installation, explicitly share ideas on using queer eroticisim as power, have a conversation about a new work titled Anastrophe: a retrospective of works and specifically share insight into their personal connection with being openly HIV positive, black, non binary, and openly queer.
Wilkerson is particularly interested in how eroticisim, and blackness exist in spaces, time, places and institutions. Their practice currently is interested in performances that use queer abstraction as a way to dissect complete and very incomplete queer experiences, reforming those experiences into items, view points, objects, relationships and explosive boundaries.
Looking within the spaces in-between part 2 reaffirms the ideas from lovepiece a work about recovering from rejection and humiliation within queer relationships. Part 2 re-communicates how they’ve lived and created within the side eye of others, living in spaces with no corners. The goal is to saturate this audience with queer ideology, humanizing queer ideology, language, sex, ownership, secrets and worship.
