Evening Conversation: A Clean Slate: Clearing Room for the Complete Story of Crandall’s Canterbury School
Connecticut’s Official State Heroine Prudence Crandall took a courageous stand when she opened a school for young African American women in 1833, but she didn’t take that stand alone. As Principal of the Canterbury Female Boarding School, Crandall worked with her students, their families, and others to provide equal education for those denied that opportunity. The Prudence Crandall Museum is taking time during museum renovations to develop new ways to share the broader story of the school and the students that will include the site’s legacy of education and equality.
Join us for a conversation with Joanie DiMartino, Curator and Site Superintendent of the Prudence Crandall Museum, as she tells us about museum’s current renovations and what we can expect to discover when the site reopens.
