FREE Summer Lunchtime Tours at the Ancient Burying Ground
Date: Friday, July 30th, 2010
Time: 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Address: 60 Gold Street, Hartford, CT 06103
Take a break and check out what is by far one of the coolest spots in Hartford. The Ancient Burying Ground is the oldest surviving site in the city, and the oldest headstone dates back to 1648. It's awesome. There are some great examples of headstone art and poetry like this one, also popular in Boston's early cemeteries:
Behold my friend as you pass by,
As you are now, so once was I.
As I am now, so you shall be,
prepare for death and follow me.
The tours take about a half hour and continue through August 6, weather permitting. The walks are free and are offered in English, Spanish and Chinese. No reservation is necessary.
