About Us
The Hartford Business Improvement District (the BID) is an organization of taxable property owners in Downtown Hartford and Asylum Hill. Established in 2006 by City referendum, the BID administers programs that create a safer, cleaner and more attractive environment for employees, visitors and residents in the District.
Our “Safe and Clean Teams” - the men and women you see in bright blue in the District on a daily basis – act as Ambassadors for the City of Hartford. They are the on-street hands, eyes and ears of the BID.

Our Security Ambassadors patrol the entire district on foot, and by bike, to provide on-call assistance to merchants, deter aggressive panhandling and keep an open line of communication with the Hartford Police Department. The Safe Team also provides free roadside assistance including jump start, lock-outs and up to a gallon of gas to motorists in the District.
Our Cleaning Ambassadors can be seen at any time of day removing litter, graffiti, debris, broken glass, and gum from our streets.
Both the Safe and Clean Teams are able to provide directions and information to those not familiar with the District.
The Mission of the Hartford Business Improvement District (The BID) is to bring about positive and lasting change by enhancing the economic vitality and quality of life within the District.
We manage Hartford.com with a focus on city destinations, events and attractions and are committed to bringing new and interesting events and activities into the District.
